XBOX Vs PS3: The Never-ending Battle
The current battle, as everyone knows, is the battle between the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360. Fortunately, instead of more violent measures, the devoted fans of their favorite consoles usually just take the fight to the forums on of game review websites. The question has been asked over and over, which console is the best?
The XBOX 360?
When people first think of the XBOX, especially in the store when considering which they want to buy, is the price. It costs hundreds of dollars less than buying the PS3, and in addition to this, there are more games available. This isn't to say that the games are particularly better; there are just a higher volume of titles. This is the result of the XBOX being released a year earlier than the PS3, with a glut of developers creating groundbreaking games for the console. According to various game reviews the usual titles, such as Halo and Games of War, were what gamers talked about when arguing their case that the XBOX 360 is the superior system.
On the other side, there are two detrimental factors that account for the cons of this console. For one, the XBOX only supports 720p. Additionally, online play is a pretty big seller for many gamers these days. For XBOX live, there is a subscription fee that must be paid. Lastly, there is the dreaded Red Ring of Death.
Or the Playstation 3?
The PS3 had a bit of a late start when it came to its release date, but not without good reason, it was delayed to release in line with SONY's new Bluray HD DVD format, an understandable move. The PS3 system boasts 1080p, and it equates to a crisper look graphically and intense graphics. The console may cost a bit more than the XBOX 360, but buyers of the Playstation 3 do not have to pay for online play. The PS3 can also double up as a Bluray player improving your home entertainment system. Furthermore, this machine is one that isn't prone to failure, as the XBOX has a 33% failure rate with the aforementioned Red Ring of Death. For the Playstation, the failure rate is closer to 2%.
With that stated, there are still a few cons attributed to the PS3, and these are pretty obvious. The Sony platform is more expensive and the Slim Playstation 3 no longer supports backward capability of PS2 games.
All in all, the more worthwhile console voted by gamers is the PS3. And although it may be more taxing monetarily, it's ultimately a sound investment. Before purchasing anything, it is important that people read gamer reviewsof both XBOX games and Playstations games, as getting as much information about both consoles will increase the chance for satisfaction.
